MS. CORY QUIRINO’S OBLIQUE, STYLISH BARBS AT STELLA MARQUEZ-ARANETA’S BINIBINING PILIPINAS

From my blog Manila Showbiz and Lifestyle farmed out in different versions to Pilipino Mirror, Pssst!, Remate Tonight Online, Columnists Monitoring Update, etc.

The Miss World Philippines 2012 gala night co-hosted by TV5 held last night June 19 at Dusit Hotel, Makati had a slight controversial opening speech coming no less  from the CEO of said pageant Ms. Cory Quirino who looked luminous in deep and trailing red gown.
From my own reading, Ms. Quirino was right in saying that it is only Miss World Philippines that raises millions of pesos for a charity. Ms. Quirino challenges everyone in the chic gala, asking “Is there one such pageant, tell me.”
That’s point one from Ms. Quirino. Short of saying not Binibining Pilipinas of Stella Marquez-Araneta, not Miss Earth perhaps, etc. Only Miss World has that advocacy. You will believe in her stylish, yet oblique barbs at Binibining Pilipinas hahaha! I told you that’s from my own reading only. Not from Ms. Quirino’s.
And point two such being the case, Ms. Quirino rightfully claims that Miss World Philippines pageant is one venture in which the the beautiful faces of women are showcased with a purpose and not as  commodity perhaps, not to showcase beauty as its own excuse for being.  Naaah!
It must have a purpose. Do you get the drift?
Does Ms. Quirino mean that the rest of the  beauty pageants in the country has lesser purpose than the beauties of  Miss World’s? Read in-between the lines and that’s it.
Miss World seems to me and to Ms. Qurino the beauty pageant with a purpose to raise millions of pesos for charity. It’s one beauty pageant to end all other beauty pageants. Ambitious, daring and controversial? Yes.
My fearless forecast to win the Miss World Philippines 2012 title this early is contestant no. 1 Kay D. Wigand, that is assuming  she is a brainer more than contestant no. 2 Vanessa Claudine M. Ammann who is also my favorite  choice for the top title. Either the two of them to win the 2012 crown, I would be more than happy.
Vanessa  by the way won the title Miss La Laguna World of the famous couple Laguna Gov. George “ER” Ejercito and Pagsanjan  Mayor Maita Ejercito. Together, the beautiful couple handed the Ph.100,000 cash prize  to  Vanessa. Quite a sum if you ask me. We will see more of Vanessa in most of the events to promote tourism activities in Laguna, the premier tourism capital of the country if you still don’t know.
But consider also that there are dark horses in the direction like   April Love Jordan who won Best In Fashion Runway (technically placing her in the top 12 finalists), that smart looker from Bacolod City Daphne Tanya Molenat, the girl from Romblon Fer Mary Baliquig who was incandescent in her most relaxed projection, and contestant no. 22 Queneerich A. Rehman who won four titles,  namely Miss Phil. Prudential, Miss World Traveler, Miss Talent (sharing it with  contestant no. 19),  and Miss Photogenic. See?
How lucky she is? But will she make it to Miss World Phil. 2012. Find it out on the Coronation Night which will be aired live from the Manila Hotel Tent on Sunday, June 24 at   8:00 pm on TV5.
The gala night also had the society circle of Ms. Cory Quirino. I spotted my society friends the twosome Annette Sia and Manette Agbayani, event maven Geena Zablan, society writers Resty Vergara, Joy Fong, Donnie Ramirez, etc.
New Yorker balikbayan-designer  and good friend Albert Figueras who I have not seen in a long time  surprised me with stunning Kaye Michelle Agnes (contestant no. 20) from Sorsogon who he outfitted in dramatic black and white fetching dress. I would not be surprised if Albert’s morena beauty would make it to the top 12 as well.
In all, the gala night true to the shared aspirations of TV5 and Miss World Philippines highlighted to the barest essentials in terms of showcasing the said event to make the Filipina a force to reckon with in international pageants and Filipino communities abroad as well.
oOo
