Nakiisa nu’ng Sabado, Nov. 24 ang nag-iisang Superstar na si Nora Aunor sa PMPC Stars for A Cause na ginanap sa Zirkoh, Morato. Unique talaga dahil dumating sa event na walang kamake-make-up at sumuporta sa isang makabuluhang okasyon.

Dun na rin tinanggap ni  La Aunor ang kanyang tropeo bilang Best Actress ng 6th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) sa Brisbane, Australia, para sa pelikulang ‘Thy Womb’ sa pangunguna ni German Moreno.

Gusto rin pasalamatan ng PMPC si Kuya Germs na nagdala kina Jake Vargas at Bea Binene  sa Zirkoh na labor of love para sa PMPC. Bukod sa libre na ang dalawa, nag-donate pa si Bea sa fund raising show ng club.

“Anytime po. Basta po para makatulong. Im always here,” sey ni Bea na may morning serye sa GMA 7 na ‘Angelina del Cielo’.

Maraming salamat din kina Miguel Aguila at  Paula Bianca sa labor of love nila  sa PMPC fundraising show.

Ganoon din  sa suporta nina Jake Cuenca, John Rendez at  Sexbomb Girls.

Salamat din sa suporta nina Gov. ER Ejercito, Boy Palma, Danny Cuneta, Alfie Lorenzo, Jobert Sucaldito, Allan K at The Queen Petals.

ABS-CBN VIPs WIN BEST TV STATION

I would like to share this thought provoking question from a certain (certain, because I don't know this guy from Adam)  Mr. Armando Domo, ka-facebook ko, as follows and I quote as where is:

 “Ka george, isa kang member ng PMPC di ba, sa tingin mo may credibility pa ba ang grupo ninyo, sabi kasi ni Tita swarding may mga nanalong hindi deserving, at may perang umiikot diyan, sabi naman ni chito alcid hindi kapani kapaniwala na yung mga award body ngayon,lalo na yang PMPC award, kasi nga masyado kayong identified sa ABS CBN,,eto ba ay totoo Ka George?”

My two-cents worth of answer to Mr. Armando Domo are  as follows:

In this business you cannot please everybody nor please all networks, but then we respect the opinion of others and that's democracy in action.

 In fairness naman sa amin star- studded as in glamorous ang PMPC Star Awards sa Ateneo as it has always been in our other past awards with celebrities coming from all networks in attendance.

Can you name an award-giving body in this country kung saan kapag may awards rite hindi mabibilang sa daliri ang attendance ng mga celebrities?

PMPC lang iyon, this our detractors have to give it to us. Yon nga ang problema ng other award-giving bodies, they cannot gather as much celebs as we do on awards rites, so papano nila masasabing wala kaming credibility?

In a manner of speaking, the PMPC Star Awards is riding on the crest of our own popularity.

Let the number of stars, networks in attendance speak for

themselves at all our awards rites.

And of course, the production value to speak of, thanks to our perennial, gorgeous, beautiful with her unwavering confidence in us the iconic/PMPC Star Awards producer Tess Celestino who has been with us for almost four decades now!

Oh by the way, watch the PMPC Star Awards for TV this Sunday night at ABS-CBN.

It's one glamorous night the PMPC would like to share with our local audiences as well as The Filipino Channel worldwide.

Makikita mo SRO as in Standing Room Only ang attendance namin directed by the Al Quinn of Philippine TV.

JOHN RENDEZ

While questions were shot almost left and right by well-meaning entertainment writers,   I could sense na medyo I was one with them  walking on a tightrope, on tinterhooks, on pile of eggs if you may careful perhaps not to step on the most sensitive part  to question John Rendez’s relation with the Supestar La Aunor if any.

SUPERSTAR LA AUNOR

That made me conclude na mahal din pala ng movie press si John the same way sa iniuukol na respeto at pagmamahal ng movie press kay La Aunor through the years.

Until one reporter  in her unease had to ask John straight in the face in her own polite way kung ano raw ba ang role ni Mama Guy Aunor sa kanyang buhay to which John in his most relaxed, impeccable English(think Fil-am from Angeles) answered to the effect na the Superstar is his manager, mentor, adviser and good friend rolled into one.

That cleared the cobwebs of doubt in the minds of most reporters.

So finally, na-break na nga ang ice after which John in fact had a good time making tsika-tsika with some reporters who wanted him up close and personal.  Almost one- on- one.

JOHN RENDEZ

Maraming napa-believe si John when he sampled his innate talent at rapping on the spot maliban sa ilang samples niya taken from his new album billed There Can Only Be One kung saan ang ilang laman nito ay sarili niyang komposisyon tulad ng No More Musik By The Suckers, Ratt9MM, Kembotan, at Metaldog na siya ring titulo ng una niyang album

na na-release nung dekada '90s.

Ang ibang laman ay nilikha ni Jonathan Ong at mixdowns naman nina Tony D. At Robert Javier ng Sonic State Studio sa Mandaluyong.

Nakagawa na ng ilang pelikula si John Rendez tulad ng Ang Totoong Buhay Ni Pacita M. opposite La Aunor, at action-drama Sindak kung saan siya ang lead starrer directed by the dear departed Director Mario O’Hara.

JOHN RENDEZ

He had a stint as game show co- host ng ABS-CBN 2 kung saan sumikat ang kanyang komposisyon na rap titled Everybody Sayaw.

Hands down ako sa assessment ko for  John Rendez's metier.

I know one when I see and hear one, and John is one good damn artist who had to risk his life and reputation for his craft and passion as no-nonsense rap artist and movie  actor as well.

John sums up his kind of music this way: "My music is my character. It's my statement with the world. This is me at this time, and the person that I was. I just want my music to be given it's own chance given that this is where I balance my skills and my feel for what's 'in' nowadays."

Go John, go!

XYRIEL MANABAT CHILD WONDER SA 24/7 AT SA STAR AWARDS FOR TV

Monster hit na naman ang pitong great as in love stories ng 20^th anniversary film offering ng Star Magic na 24/7 In Love ayon sa pusang galang (pun intended there)  si katotong Roel Villacorta na ginagawang pastime ang movie watching.

Yong kasabayan nito ay as usual nilangaw sabi pa ni Roel. Sa movie house  ng offering ng Star Magic ay uminit daw sobra ang kapaligiran sa dami ng tao, see?

    On my part, I recommend na sa kamahalan ng admission price ngayon, if there is one movie na dapat panoorin ‘nyo bago magsarado ang taon, this is it.

          Sulit talaga ang 24/7 In Love.

Saan ka ba nakapanood ng isang pelikula na pinagsasama-sama ang mga bibigating mga artista at mga directors in one movie together.

Only from Star Magic talents na akala mo ay itino-tour ka sa kanilang studio para in flesh- and- blood ang mga stars and celebrities of the hour ay makahalubilo mo in one setting na para kang nag- smorgasboard o buffet to the max, hindi ba naman?

   Fresh ang mga story lines ng 24/7 maliban sa feel good” ang mga ito and would make you fall in love again for the 9^th around.

LA AUNOR & LA HELEN IN A TIE FOR BEST ACTRESS

       Si Zanjo Marudo bilang gay na pumatol minsan kay Bea Alonzo who is his gf off-cam ay  klik sa LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community. Walang emotional manipulation rito, hindi sila nagkapatulan or nagkatuluyan in the end. Kaya beautiful siya. Real life.

         

Touching naman ang episode ng triangulated casting nila Piolo Pascual, Ziajian Jaranilla at Xyriel Manabat na incidentally ay nahirang na Best Drama Actress sa nakaraang PMPC  Star Awards for TV besting other   co-nominees and acting greats in their own right tulad nila  Dawn Zulueta, Helen Gamboa (ka-tie ni Nora Aunor sa PMPC Star Awards for TV), Janice De Belen, Rochelle Pangilinan, Susan Roces and the Superstar no less Nora Aunor ( who else?) na nanalo rin ng Star Award’s Best Actress in a Single Performance of an Actress.

          Parang ngayon lamang naulit locally ang Best Actress award sa katauhan ni Xyriel Manabat na napanalunan ng batang si  Tatum O’Neal noon for Paper Moon sa Hollywood’s Oscars. Standout din si Xyriel sa 24/7.

Napaka-clever ang paghabi ng kwento nito pero very believable kundi authentic at well-researched pa. Natandaan ko tuloy ang sinabi ni Piolo na in his acting career ay naghahanap pa rin siya ng something different that   will challenge his creativity at ito na nga ‘yun. It’s the director’s take on the plight of PWD (Persons with disability).

         Ganun din ang episode nila Sam Milby at Pokwang na kapapanalo lamang niya ng Best Comedy Actress sa nakaraang PMPC Star Awards for TV para sa sitcom nila  na Toda Max where incidentally ay nanalo naman si Robin Padilla bilang Best Comedy Actor for the same. 

ROBIN PADILLA BEST COMEDY ACTOR WITH "TODA MAX" CO-STARS  POKWANG & ANGEL LOCSIN

Wala ka talagang itulak kabigin sa all-star casting ng 24/7  tulad ng tandem nila Kim Chiu at Gerald Anderson, Diether Ocampo at Maja Salvador, Daniel Padilla at Kathryn Bernardo, Angelica Panganiban at John Lloyd Cruz na kung ‘di ‘nyo pa alam ay magsing-irog naman to the max at the moment. Saan ka pa? Di ba nakakakilig if you are a fan of Pinoy movies.

          But more than the inputs of the great actors of said movie, kailangan din natin, however smorgasboard, ay i-credit ang mga brilliant minds of the scriptwriters behind 24/7 movie as interpreted by competent directors tulad nila Directors Mae Cruz, Dado Lumibao, John-D Lazatin at si Frasco Mortiz, anak ng aming best friend from way back Going Banana Days na si Edgar Mortiz who never fails to call me by my first name tuwing magkikita kami kahit saang sulok ng daigdig. Makes me think tuloy showbiz is such a small world.

          Sabi nga ni katotong  Roel, fan movie ang 24/7 alright pero hindi siya nakaka-offend sa intelligence ng mga thinking viewers na tulad niya. Naman.
