The meaning of the shopworn saying, "the bad times bring out the best and the worst in us" is no farther than the truth.
This is referencing the Covid-19 pandemic which has put me positively in quarantine and social distancing with but my Huawei mobile phone, the TV networks, my family, and friendly neighbors as source of information from the outside world.
In a way it's a break or breath of fresh air from the hustle-bustle of city life that put me somehow in a state of "creativity in captivity" like thesis/dissertation advising, script doctoring/ scripting "Enforcers" for Director William Mayo, writing a coffee table book for New York-based portraitest- painter Rommel Rico, and such other cognitive-enhancing and currency elevating activities.
The term came from an FB post of a good friend of mine colleague & Sidney-based multi-media artist Mars D. Cavestany, Jr., Ph.D., gamely referencing his own version of captivity in the Land Down Under.
Altogether the bad and sad news Ms. Joy Belmonte is now under fire 24/7 in all social media platforms by her constituents including other socmed sympathisers out of Q. C. for her administratively challenged position and gross failure to manage the pandemic.
Q. C. tops the number of Covid-19 deaths in Metro Manila, Philippines.
But this did not happen overnight. Before the outbreak some civic-minded and politically-attuned souls from the entertainment press and industry sector politely posted on socmed their wake-up calls for the mayor to spring proactive and get visible. "Nada"!
Thus in the direction we highly commend the early and ominous forthright opinions of colleagues teleradyo talk show host of DZMM Jobert Sucaldito, talented actor also talk show host Ogie Diaz, fearless non-pareil Facebook commentator Ronald Carballo, PMPC member Leo Bukas, Hataw tabloid lady editor Maricris Nicasio whose daughter an alum of the Univ. of the Phil. is my god daughter (we owe her one) if we may write-in.
Showbiz fightingest bloggers-vloggers-columnists include Throy Catan, Ed De Leon, Benny Andaya, Timmy Basil, Favatinni, Arniel Serato, Wendell Alvarez, Mell Navarro, Ronald Rafer, and former editor of "Artista" Magazine, and " Bomba," "Saksi" tabloids Art Tapalla.
While other Q. C. constituents chose to play safe perhaps and "centered" themsleves apolitically, non-committal in their deafening silence for one reason or other and keeping the prevailing blatant disregard of the lady mayor to themselves, clarion calls from some industry sectors persisted on socmed from the likes of film directors Jose Javier - Reyes, Erwena Arguelles, Arman Reyes, and the brilliant alum pride of Silliman Univ., newest & freshest local and international award - winning maverick director-actor-producer to have currently emerged from the filmmakers' block Director Romm Burlat, also a major stakeholder of Kapisanan Ng Mga Direktor Sa Pelikulang Pilipino (KDPP) under its Pres. William G. Mayo.
Add on the familiar three decades long triumvirate of former Peta artists- award-winning screenwriters -directors Tom Adrales, Jigz Recto, and Tony Aguilar respectively vis-a-vis some movie actors Jess Sanchez, Pia Magalona and Jennifer Geroche, etc.
There must have been ample others, but were not my friends on FB. Yet a deluge of socmed posts condemning the Q. C. mayor poured in from sympathisers/empathisers the world over
Sadly, through the pandemic the aforesaid call for immediate action fell on the mayor's deaf ears - - - "deadma" - - - for dead malice in showbiz lingo.
But all her snooty, skewing attitude recocheted for the worse: justifiable rationale rants and bashings in socmed was thrown in to the present time for good measure for her to step down pronto!
She did issue some public statements but were too oddly snooty, irresponsible, combative, and unacceptable to mention.
This was in time for the iconic hard-hitting broadcast journalist Jay Sonza to post a highly loaded dossier headlong on his Facebook account vis-a-vis to inform the world that he was serious in telling this to mayor Joy Belmonte , " Your leadership as mayor of this premier city, the national hub of the Republic, will certainly make QC another Wuhan and Italy in the fight against Covid-19."
Moreover Sonza pleaded, "..
. if you care enough for us, your constituents please do yourself a favor, vanish if you must.
You simply can't handle the heat in the kitchen. You have a poor comprehension. You do not have a crisis management ability. And you just don't have a true and sincere heart for the less fortunate. You are a disgrace to mankind and humanity Ms.Joy Belmonte. "
The lady mayor has all these things coming to her on social media - - - public shaming!
But is there any other way to solve the problem like Mayor Joy Belmonte of Quezon City?
