DIRECTOR ROMY SUZARA |
May 1 which is tomorrow is red-letter day if not red carpet day for Director Romy Suzara who will take to the cold reading for his most controversial indie film billed “Tinik,” an entry to the SINENG PAMBANSA (NATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL): ALL-MASTERS EDITION, produced by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) to be shown in September 7-14, 2013 exclusively at SM Cinemas (nationwide) with possible exposures in international film festivals abroad.
The cold reading cum bonding will be held at Fanny Serrano’s salon, Morato fronting Terrazo and will involve “Tinik’s male leads the versatile Raymond Bagatsing and Hayden Kho, Belo’s you know who.
Iconic Fanny Serrano who last starred and got glowing reviews abroad and local award as well for his searing performance in “Tarima” joins the cold reading with another iconic fashion designer who moonlights no end as film/TV actor Renee Salud, the Mama Renee Salud of showbiz. Direk Romy says Mama Renee takes the role of a cutter in the magical and surreal world of fashion designers and fashion shows as well. Brava Mama Reneee!
To write in, I had a memorable experience with Director Romy Suzara at Agrix Films where I was in the Creative Dep’t. in charge of reviewing scripts for final filming. Knowing his integrity and sincerity as no-nonsense director we never in a manner of speaking put his script under the knife on the drawing table at Agrix.
Direk Romy breezed through his projects at Agrix with the dear departed Rudy Fernandez as his male lead in most of his action starrers.
People in the know have high expectations for “Tinik” because the material of Direk Romy is far from the usual, a complete turnabout from his métier which we are all familiar with as reflected in his past oeuvre like the one he helmed at Agrix Films “Holdup ” with Rudy Fernandez in the lead and others like “Boy Pana,” “Pepeng Shotgun,” “Lagalag,” “Sarah, Ang Munting Prinsesa,” “Sutla,” “Cedie,” “Sana, Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon,” “Cariño Brutal,” “Sa Init ng Apoy,” etc.
I am not preempting Director Suzara’s material, but over and above this caters to a cult following of the LGBT sector. Now you know. Let’s see to that. I can hardly wait to watch “Tinik” with the masterful touches of a Romy Suzara.
By the way, Director Joel Lamangan is into the same subject matter. I heard it is Joel’s own take of the “Brokeback Mountain” set against the lives and loves of the rebels of the First Quarter Storm I suppose. Would it be yet far different perhaps from Director Adolf Alix’s “Muli”? Let’s see to that too.
