Marvin Agustin

Naka-tsika namin si Marvin Agustin  sa  Gateway, Cubao at tipong high ang single parent to two kids sa bagong kontrata niya ngayon sa TV 5 bilang host ng Artista Academy, ang pinakabago at pinakamagastos na reality show ng bansa.
Co-host ni Marvin sa “Artista Academy” si Cesar Montano at ayon sa kanya ay sa July 30 na right after “Wil Time Big Time” ni Willie Revillame  ang grand premiere ng Artista Academy kung saan pipiliin out  16 finalists ang dalawang pair of lucky winners.
To recall, 30 thousand ka-hopefuls ang nag-audition noon sa Araneta Coliseum out of which ay nag-short list sila.
Exciting ang premiere nito dahil dito huhugutin ang dalawang lucky winners out of the 16 finalists.
Head of Creative & Entertainment Perci Intalan

She’s neither here nor there ‘ika nga.
Last year nakatatlong pelikula siya plus mga soap opera.
In everything I do I take it not as a kind work or hard work that is,  but one I do out of pure love.

JUN LANA’S “BWAKAW” MOST LIKELY TO BAG “PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD”

Eddie Garcia and his most loved stray dog Bwakaw

JUN LANA’S “BWAKAW” MOST LIKELY TO BAG “PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD”

When you’re 60 years old and  have fallen in love with love and loved as much, fall out of it as well once or a few more times, it’s not much of an issue on self-actualization as it is of meaningful existence before one  kicks the bucket and come face-to-face with St. Peter for the final reckoning.

But if you’re  alone  at 60, and yes gay and has not had any “meaningful relationship” at all with a lover (okay a loved one) nor with someone else, gay or hetero or family member(s) even and all you have to your lonesome is a domesticated “askal” (stray dog) at your fancy, there’s going to be an  issue_  philosophical  or at most an existential one.

Director Jun Lana
This is the subject matter being tackled by auteur director and multi-awarded winning playwright/screenwriter Director Jun Lana in his most recent outing at the Cinemalaya (2012) Director’s Showcase.

Parenthetical, I must insist that if you are down to your shoestring budget don’t miss out on this one. You don’t have to be gay, hetero, lesbian, grumpy and gay at 60 which Eddie Garcia is in the digital film playing a reluctant, closeted gay who finds genuine friendship in his pet dog he found on the street and named it Bwakaw, also the film’s title.

In hindsight, Director Jun Lana’s “Bwakaw”  is a take on one of humanity’s most feared situations, gay or no gay, which is that of getting old alone and if you push the issue farther to not having loved anyone at all_ loveless and is “tigang” at 60.  This is where the most existential issue of the film  comes in .
Would loving a dog suffice and make you nevertheless human like anyone else blessed with a loved one? Or would it make you less of a human?

Eddie Garcia
This  is master storyteller Jun Lana’s take on happiness which is after all relative _ and up to one’s responsibility from the way I see it in the direction of hermeneutics. Done in light, albeit biting humor you would be laughing at Eddie Garcia’s most effortless characterization all through much of it.

“Bwakaw” I dare say towers over other entries  in the “People’s Choice Awards,” if not Best Actor for Eddie Garcia.  Thank God, Director Lana has downplayed Eddie Garcia’s  distracting tendency to “dialogue in” his funny antics and his habit of dishing out his patented Manoy’s sing-song and Bicolano accent that he used to do in practically all of his past movies.

At  best, “Bwakaw”  may yet get for Director Lana Best Screenplay and yes Best Director Award as well. He is no auteur director for nothing in the truest sense of the word.

At “Bwakaw’s” premiere I had a great time congratulating TV5’s Head of Creative and Entertainment Mr. Perci Intalan who  executive produced the brilliant project alongside the full force of TV 5’s PR mavens Lhot Ortega, Luigi and Papa Omar of TV5’s “Paparazzi” and Juicy.”

Yes, success was written all over our faces sharing it with  Director Jun Lana’s fresh and exhilarating take on the  question of man’s eternal quest for happiness. For this, I am bound to watch Sunday’s award’s night at CCP to share in the glory of watching “Bwakaw” snatch a “major-major” award or two. Catch “Bwakaw” at CCP, Trinoma and Greenbelt theaters. You will not regret it.

Just recently, the CONSLA (Confederation of  Non-Stock Savings and Loan Assoc., Inc.) and its  Board of Trustees together with delegates from its 70  member-associations nationwide for three days held its 21st national convention with the theme "CONSLA @ 40: PILLAR OF GROWTH AND STABILITY"  at the convention center of  Boracay Regency Hotel.
On their 40 years of leading the non-stock association industry, the national event led by President retired PAF Col. Ricardo Nolasco, Jr. was welcomed by Aklan's Municipality Mayor of Malay John P. Yap.
In its report, Col. Nolasco translated the growth and stability indicators to the delegates, cushioning as he did the prolonged adverse effects of the global economic crisis and economic downturn even as he proposed a safety net program in the direction.
He also emphasized that in its 40  years of existence, CONSLA has remained steadfast and committed to the true essence of their continued existence.
To recall, CONSLA is the umbrella organization that was created as a government body of the Non-Stock Savings and Loan Assoc. (NSSLA) industry.
The Honorable Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla, Jr., member of the Senate Committee on Bank Financial Institution and Currency, who is supportive of CONSLA  graced the occasion as Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker.
Col. Nolasco roused the delegates to roaring applause of approval in his introduction of Senator Revilla when he said that the person they were about to see face- to- face and hear is the next important person in the country, if not the next future President.
More than his celebrity status as Philippine cinema's urban legend Panday that added glitter to the convention, Sen. Revilla underscored the vital role of CONSLA as catalyst for the growth of the  country's economy and its more than seven million beneficiaries who belong to the marginalized sectors of the Philippines society, such as the military and police, teachers, employees of the government and private sectors, miners, and school employees.
Sen. Revilla also promised to push for the approval of a CONSLA bill seeking to strengthen its foundation and to adjust to the ever-changing tides and demands of the global economy.
Another guest speaker Gov. Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. of  Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) highly lauded the CONSLA and gave the assurance that the BSP will support the association in its role  to help protect the interests and welfare of its 70 member-associations as well as its more than 7 million beneficiaries
The goal of the national convention among others  is to uplift CONSLA's legacy of building stronger relationships among its members, business partners, regulators, and friends and to provide  an opportunity to confer with and learn from honorable guests and distinguished resource persons.
The fellowship night saw some members slugging it out for CONSLA’s   Singing Idols 2012 whose winners were Atty. Jaymie Manalili, 1st ; Maria Dee Gee Dangalan, 2nd ; and Buddy Paringit, 3rd. In the Singing Videoke Star  2012 category the respective winners were Voltaire Alocreza, Capt. Teofilo Metrio and Marianita Modesta.
The board of judges were flown in straight from Manila led by Portia Ilagan who came in with Sen. Bong Revilla, Jr., President/CEO of Multi-Competencies International Training Center Zonnie D. Espiritu and George Vail Kabristante, Artistic Director of  Balintataw Film & Theater Arts –UNESCO Phil. Center for ITI ( International Theater Institute).

As a footnote, on behalf of the members and officers of PMPC (Phil. Movie Press Club) I would like to extend our eternal gratitude to Col. Nolasco for granting our request to hold our most successful outing cum team building activities at his high-end Hannah's Beach Resort and Convention Center, Pagupud, Ilocos Norte.

I must say that if there is one resort/ tourist destination that you should visit before you kick the bucket, this is it __ the virginal, unspoiled Boracay of the North! Visit Hannah's  website for details. Surely, if you get there you will come back for more as we are all  yearning to do so in the future.

STEALING THE THUNDER FROM VILMA SANTOS’S “THE HEALING”

VILMA SANTOS SEATED AT CENTER WITH DIRECTOR CHITO RONO AT HER BACK AND KIM CHIU  BESIDE HER AND THE REST OF THE CAST OF  "THE HEALING"

By GEORGE VAIL KABRISTANTE
PMPC (Phil. Movie Press Club)

From his blogsite Manila Showbiz and Lifestyle farmed out in different versions to www.pmpcstarnews.com.ph, Remate Online, Pilipino Mirror, Pssst, CMT (Columnists Monitoring Team) Update

A day earlier (that was Thursday)  ang cadaver ni Dolphy ay pinag-stop over sa nabanggit na theater house to pay last respect to the Comedy King bago siya dalhin sa Heritage Park kung saan doon siya ibuburol.

The last time ang ginawa ko was “Anak” and then nasundan yun ng “In My Life.”  So bale dream movie ko talaga ito and it took years  to realize it. Kaya nung sinabi ni Direk Chito na meron na siyang material, ay go talaga ako agad so that’s it ito na,” say pa ng Star For All Seasons.

Napakasaya ng nasbing press brief.  Sobrang personal at  naka-relate si Ate Vi at mga kasamahan nito sa iba’t-ibang tanong ng mga reporters as moderated by Doyenne of Entertainement Writing and ex-prexy of PMPC (Phil. Movie Press Club) Ethel Ramos (take your bow, Manay Ethel!) in tandem with breezy Erik John Salut.

The following day Friday the 13 nakahabol sa tabloid ang glowing reportage on Vilma Santos’s grandest movie of the year  kasama pa ang live streaming straight from bloggers na andun din sa Dolphy Theater para i-cover ang press brief ni Ate Vi and company.

Sinundan naman ito ni katotong Julie Bonifacio who had a clearer version of the scandal.

Special mention ni Chuck ang King Of Talk Boy Abunda na naroon mismo sa pandemonium na ‘yun na ayon pa ni Chuck na-floored ‘ata si Kuya Boy at never itong nag-comment, medyo trying his best to maintain his composure and all pero alam niyang Boy was somehow affected by the incident. Hindi niya alam kung na-shock wave si Kuya Boy o di kaya pinoproseso lamang niya ang pangyayari para sa “The Buzz”  na as ever things like this  The King of Talk has always the last word ‘ika nga. Abangan!

Ang King of Talk ay palaging may challenge sa mga movie reporters when it comes to reporting events, scandalous or not. Ayon sa kanya kailangang “mag-step up” (his word) ang mga reporters to make stories interesting and not to rely mainly on press releases and press conferences.

Tama. Ganun nga ang reportage ng “The Buzz” through the years. Watching it live on ringside view like what we usually do on Sundays, or onscreen makes you feel this could be the trade secret of the unparalleled, unprecedented and multi-awarded (to include an Asian Award for Journalism for  Boy)   showbiz-oriented talk show in town.

One glaring oversight (conscious or not)  sa self-reportage ni Chito Alcid sa Facebook about Annabelle’s attack on him ay never niyang na-mention na nung siya ay nasukol na ni Annabelle ay  nahandusay siya sa sahig dahil ayon sa nakasaksi na-out of balance nga raw siya. Sa katabaan niyang yun, he fell flat on the floor.

Was Chito trying to sanitize his own reportage?

ARTISTA ACADEMY’S TWENTY MILLION PRIZE REELS OFF JULY 30

Philippine television’s grandest and most intensive search for the next big stars begins this July 30 as TV5 premieres Artista Academy, the only reality-based talent competition offering real artista training in a legitimate school of television arts. Hosted by seasoned actors Cesar Montano and Marvin Agustin, Artista Academy will share with viewers the real journey of 16 showbiz aspirants. They will undergo extensive curriculum-based training at the Asian Academy of Television Arts (AATA) to become certified professional actors equipped with the acting versatility and right attitude to make names for themselves in showbiz.
The highly successful one-time grand auditions last June 19 saw a crowd of over 13,000 packing the SMART Araneta Coliseum. Artista Academy had to conduct rigorous screening in choosing the 16 finalists who have what it takes to become TV5’s biggest new stars.
